The New York Jets will start Josh McCown, while the Buffalo Bills go with Matt Barkley, in an AFC East matchup on Sunday at the Meadowlands.

It's almost inconceivable how bad the Buffalo Bills have been on offense this season, as they have gone through one quarterback after another. When it comes to that "spinning wheel," we've noticed that it is stopping on the fourth different starter, but since no one has been very effective, does it really matter? This week, the Bills will take on the New York Jets, who will be without THEIR starting quarterback, but may actually be experiencing an upgrade in the process.

The kickoff is at 1 PM ET Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, and remember that if you are a BetAnySports customer, you can place wagers while the contest is in progress, through the wonders of Live Betting Ultra.

Buffalo vs NY Jets pickBuffalo has now scored in single-digits the last three weeks, and in the last five games, they've had just 46 points. Nathan Peterman was last week's starting quarterback, and he threw three interceptions in a 41-9 loss to the Chicago Bears. Things of gotten bad enough that Bills fans have put up a GoFundMe page, trying to raise enough money that they can retire Peterman. Head coach Sean McDermott says he won't give Peterman another start unless rookie Josh Allen and veteran Derek Anderson are not available. Well, you can add Matt Barkley to that list; the former UCLA star, who is now with his sixth different team, will get the assignment, two weeks after signing with the team. And who knows if Terrelle Pryor ,who used to be the starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders, would get the next call ahead of Peterman.

The Jets decided at the beginning of the season that they were going to give the ball to Sam Darnold and let him just play and learn. Along the way, they were just going to have to deal with the rough spots. He got off to a promising start, as the Jets registered a 48-17 victory over Detroit in their opener. But things have been choppy, to say the least. At this time, Darnold has thrown 14 interceptions, more than any other NFL quarterback. Ad that's all a moot point anyway, because he has been ruled out of the game with a foot injury. Veteran Josh McCown will take his place.

In the NFL betting odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Jets are the favorites at home:

New York Jets -7 (-115)
Buffalo Bills +7 (-105)

Over 36.5 points -110
Under 36.5 points -110

There is no question that Darnold will develop a lot more, but he's completed just 55% of his passes, which is pretty low in this day and age. The Jets have tried to support him with a rushing component, and it has been successful at times, but the receiving corps has suffered from attrition. And center Spencer Long has been a comedy of errors for them lately. The Jets have only scored 33 points in their last three games, and they are going to have to get some heavy support from running back Isaiah Crowell, who has averaged five yards per carry but has had his ups and downs.

NY Jets free tipsBuffalo is by far the worst offensive team in the NFL, scoring just eight touchdowns in nine games. Whatever it was that happened to the Minnesota Vikings on the day they lost 27-6 to Buffalo was undoubtedly a fluke. It is quite possible that the Bills will have fewer touchdowns than any other NFL team in the history of the 16-game schedule.

But there is something redeeming about the Buffalo defense, which has done a tremendous job, considering that they had to spend so much time on the field, a by-product of having an offense that converts only 28% of its third downs. Buffalo has held its opponents to just 3.9 yards per carry and 212 passing yards per game. With 22 sacks, they have the ability put some pressure on the quarterback, and this would probably have been more of a factor if Darnold was the starter this week.

McCown has not played all year, and he may have only taken 19 snaps in the pre-season, but he's enough of a veteran where he can play himself into a situation and still managed to minimize the critical mistakes. As such, in an isolated situation such as this, the Jets' offense may realize a little more of what it can do. McCown was last year's starter for the Jets, completing 67% of his passes with 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions. In 2013, he threw just one pick in 224 attempts for the Chicago Bears. A slight lean to New York in this battle of AFC East lesser lights.
