Jacksonville is the host city as the Wofford Terriers of the Southern Conference clash with the Seton Hall Pirates of the Big East in each team's debut in the Big Dance.

Throughout the season, the Wofford Terriers have been touted by the "smart" people as a fashionable pick to pull off some upsets and go places in the NCAA Tournament. And now here they are, as the Southern Conference champion, in a year in which the league was pretty strong. Are they equipped to move past the first round? We have been asking how good they really are, based on their non-conference efforts, and we are about to find out something in that regard as they prepare to face the Seton Hall Pirates in the Round of 64, taking place at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville.

The opening tip is scheduled for approximately 9:40 PM ET on CBS, and BetAnySports customers can get reduced juice before the game starts, not to mention real-time wagering through the facilities of Live Betting Ultra.

Wofford comes into this game with a record of 29-4 and a 20-game winning streak under their belts. They ripped through the Southern Conference scheduled undefeated, which is quite an accomplishment when you consider that they registered multiple victories over the likes of UNC-Greensboro, Furman and East Tennessee State, all capable squads.

Seton Hall free playSeton Hall was just 11-10 in the Big East when all was said and done, and their path in the Big East tournament ended last Saturday as they were beaten in the semi-finals by Villanova, the defending national champions. With a 20-13 record, they did survive the cut line, however, although admittedly two losses suffered at the hands of DePaul could have easily screwed them with the NCAA Selection Committee.

In the NCAA Tournament betting odds that have been placed on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, Wofford is the team that is favored:

Wofford Terriers -2.5
Seton Hall Pirates +2.5

Over 145 points -110
Under 145 points -110

There is no questioning that Wofford has great numbers. They are dead-on from three-point range (41.6%) and they also do a really good job at taking care of the ball. Fletcher Magee, who averaged 20.5 ppg and ranks 42nd in the nation in Offensive Rating, is one of those "breakout stars" the pundits like to talk about. But we're going to take a closer statistical look at what we might expect.

Wofford Seton Hall free pickIf recall an earlier story, the reason we questioned how good Wofford really might be is that we looked at the schedule and realized that, when it came to stiff opposition outside of their conference, they came up empty, with losses suffered at the hands of North Carolina, Oklahoma, Kansas and Mississippi State, all of which came by double digits. In fact, it looks as though the Terriers were accorded strength based on a victory over Furman, which itself had beaten Villanova. Okay, that's fine.

But Seton Hall beat Villanova as well, and lost by two points to them in a Big East tournament thriller. Of course, they are used to facing top-flight opposition.

Magee has made 151 triples on the season, and he is hitting at a rate of 41.3%. Yet, when he has moved up in class and out of the conference, he has made 12 of 47 attempts. That's 25.5%, and that is mediocre. And while this team, which had a 57.8% Effective Field Goal Percentage (fourth in the nation) chalked up 65.8% in that category against Mississippi State, it also yielded 71.4% (not good). And the figures against North Carolina (45.2%), Oklahoma (45.3%) and Kansas (30%) suggest that they DO indeed have difficulty punching above their weight.

And now they are NOT in the role of the underdog any more, but instead laying points to a team (Seton Hall) that has scored victories over Maryland, St. John's, Creighton and Marquette (twice each) as well as Villanova (as mentioned). Oh, we almost forgot their 84-83 overtime win over Kentucky at Madison Square Garden, where Myles Powell (22.9 ppg) erupted for 28, including six treys.

Hey - maybe Wofford does get hot from downtown and fulfills the expectations of some of the pundits. But you can also understand why THIS pundit sees some value in this number, as we grab the points with a team in "The Hall" that is not only battle-tested, but has actually passed some of those tests.
