The deciding Game 5 in the NLDS will pit Max Scherzer of the Washington Nationals against Rich Hill of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Washington Nationals like to think they are in pretty good shape as they head into the deciding game of the National League Divisional Series against  the Los Angeles Dodgers, in which they have the home field advantage, as well as the advantage of having perhaps the front-runner for the Cy Young Award on the mound. These teams are going to be squaring off at 8 PM ET at Nationals Park, and if you are a BetAnySports customer, or sign up to become one, you can avail yourself of reduced juice wagering before the game, then continued action even after the first pitch, through the magic of Live Betting Ultra.

Max Scherzer, who did not have a whole lot of success in Game 1 of this series, giving up four runs and taking the loss, will be going up against southpaw Rich Hill, who had an amazing season and was the loser in Game 2, when he gave up four runs as well, including a three-run homer by Jose Lobaton.

Hill has one of the best curveballs in the major leagues, and if he is on his game he is pretty tough to hit. But he is not likely to be in the game for very long, because he is operating on just three days of rest. Luckily for them, they have a rested bullpen, as well as another starting pitcher, young Julio Urias, who can come in and give them some innings as well. At this point, it is "all hands on deck," as if you haven't heard that expression used in the buildup to this game.

In the MLB playoff odds that have been posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, the Nationals are favored at home:

Washington Nationals (Scherzer - R) -148
Los Angeles Dodgers (Hill - L) +138

Over 7 Runs -120
Under 7 Runs +100

Hill, a 36-year-old, has finally emerged as a star in the major leagues, after many years of trying. He suffered a groin injury and a blister on his hand, but he did manage to have 20 starts for the Oakland A's and the Dodgers (after a mid-season trade), and compiled a 2.00 ERA. He seems to have conquered his control issues, more or less, and his numbers with L.A. have been great - as in a 1.83 ERA and 0.79 WHIP. And he will try again to prove that the Nats, who released him last season, made a mistake. He'll have their attention, for certain.

Remember this about the Dodger bullpen - they have had a day of rest and Henley Jensen, who was hit hard in the ninth inning of Game 3, does not have many bad outings. The whole thing may revolve around how many innings Hill can give them, so they can have more flexibility.

BetAnySports patrons who follow analytics know that the Dodgers are the worst hitting team in the majors against left-handed pitching, and Washington has its share of southpaw arms in the bullpen. But Scherzer is a right-hander and he may be in there for a while. Either way, this stands to be good news for the Nats.

And the Dodgers have to be scared of Daniel Murphy by now. The second baseman, who hit a pair of homers against Clayton Kershaw in last year's playoffs as a member of the New York Mets and finished second in batting average in the NFL this year, has hit .462 for the Nationals in this NLDS. This should be a fascinating matchup from a strategic standpoint.
