The Chicago Cubs turn to last year's Cy Young winner in an effort to go up 2-1 in the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.

It was not exactly unexpected that the Los Angeles Dodgers could possibly win Game 2 of the National League Championship Series behind their ace left-hander, Clayton Kershaw. And he indeed pitched a gem, going seven extremely strong innings and putting the bullpen in good shape. A home run by Adrian Gonzalez was all that was needed for the Dodgers to come away with a victory to even up the series. Now the Chicago Cubs have to come back, or they will be behind the eight-ball with a club that was widely considered to be clearly the best in all of baseball. They will send last year's Cy Young Award winner to the mound on Tuesday night, in this game that begins at 8:05 PM ET at Dodger Stadium. Remember that BetAnySports customers can get reduced juice on this game before hand, and then after the first pitch, they can continue with their action, using state-of-the-art software available through Live Betting Ultra.

Jake Arrieta was almost unhittable coming down the stretch last season, and he powered his way to a Cy Young ahead of many other outstanding pitchers, including Kershaw and Max Scherzer. Arrieta did not have as good a season in 2016, but he was still plenty good, with an 18-8 record and 3.10 earned run average. And the Dodgers would like to forget the last time he showed up at Chavez Ravine, as he pitched a no-hitter. That was while he was red-hot last season, however, so the boys in blue might reasonably expect to have a better chance here.

They will go again with southpaw Rich Hill, who had himself a monster season, with a 12-5 record and 2.12 ERA. Hill has one of those great stories, where he languished for years, struggling with his control and with injuries, but has, at the age of 36, emerged as an ace-level pitcher. In the playoffs he has not fared as well as some might have expected, though, so maybe there is some redemption in order for him.

In the MLB playoff betting odds posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, the Cubs are favored on the road:

Chicago Cubs (Arrieta – R) +103
Los Angeles Dodgers (Hill – L) -113

Over 6.5 Runs -115
Under 6.5 Runs -105

When you take a closer look at the record, Arrieta has actually given up only two hits over his last 16 innings pitched against the Dodgers. And there is really no one who has been overly effective against him that is likely to be in the lineup on Tuesday. So they're going to have to sit back and wait for mistakes. This is a well-rested right-hander they are going up against; he did pitch Game 3 of the NLDS, but that was on October 10, and he went six innings with a no-decision. Before that, he had last pitched on September 28.

Rest, or lack of same, was the subject matter when Hill last took the mound in the deciding game of the NLDS against the Washington Nationals. Manager Dave Roberts was looking for as many innings is Hill could possibly give them only four days after his previous start. He went into the third inning, and the Dodgers more or less got a "committee" job from the staff, then came from behind to win the game, with the highlight being a save by Kershaw.
