The San Francisco Giants have fallen a couple of games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West, and they tangle on Wednesday.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have overtaken the San Francisco Giants for the lead in the National League West, and they will put Rich Hill on the mound for the first time as they look to win the second installment of this three-game series at Dodger Stadium, with game time slated for 10:10 PM ET. And remember that at BetAnySports, you can place wagers on the game, in real-time, even after it has begun, using Live Betting Ultra.

The Giants put their ace, Madison Bumgarner, out there for the first game, with an opportunity to forge a tie in the division. But Bumgarner did not have one of his better games, allowing five runs over five innings before leaving. It was a 9-5 win for the Dodgers, which gave them a two-game lead. The Giants, who have won three World Series since 2010, have really faltered after the All-Star break, not managing to gain any momentum, and the Dodgers have made up all this ground without their ace pitcher, Clayton Kershaw.

As Kershaw had been put on the disabled list with what turned out to be a mildly herniated disk, the Dodgers' front office explored options for how to bolster the rotation. One of the acquisitions was Bud Norris; another was Hill, who was having a heck of a season with the Oakland Athletics but was natural trade bait. The deal came down on August 1, right before the deadline, and the Dodgers waited until Hill got off the DL, where he was with a blister on his left middle finger. Now he's ready to go.

In the MLB odds posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, the Dodgers are the favorites at home:

San Francisco Giants (Cueto - R) +120
Los Angeles Dodgers (Hill - L) -130

Over 7 Runs -120
Under 7 Runs +100

Hill does not give up many base hits; in his last 105 innings of work he has yielded only 79 of them. And on only a few occasions this season has he given up more than two earned runs. So he was a pretty good southpaw pickup for a team that was missing the arm of Kershaw, who was 11-2 with a 1.79 ERA and a ratio of sixteen strikeouts to every walk.

And the Dodgers got what is potentially a piece of good news on Tuesday when Kershaw threw a painless bullpen session. The three-time Cy Young winner was greatly encouraged by it, although neither he nor the club would give any kind of timetable for his return. Some had speculated that he would be shut down for the year, but now there is at least some hope he could help the Dodgers down the stretch.

The Giants turn to their "other" ace, Johnny Cueto, who has been a pretty consistent pitcher for them all year long. Cueto, who had a good enough first half that he was the starter for the NL in the All-Star Game, is coming off a solid outing against the Mets, in which he fanned only two but surrendered just a single earned run over eight innings. He has made three starts against the Dodgers this season; in the first one (April 10), he went seven innings but gave up six runs and ten hits, but the last two have been exceptional, as he has yielded just three runs on six hits in a total of 15-1/3 frames. The Giants have supported him to the tune of 4.97 runs per start.
