The New York Mets are trying to stay in the playoff race, even though they have been getting some anemic offense. The face the Colorado Rockies in the second of a four-game series on Friday night.

The New York Mets are the defending National League champions, but as of right now, it looks as if they are going to have ail they can handle just getting into the playoffs. On Friday night they will play host to the Colorado Rockies, who beat them in dramatic fashion in Thursday afternoon's game. The starting time is 7:10 PM ET at Citi Field, and BetAnySports customers can get their fill of action even after the opening pitch is thrown, as they take advantage of all that Live Betting Extra has to offer. Real-time wagers against dynamic baseball odds - it doesn't get more exciting than that!

Colorado Rockies game previewOn Thursday, the Rockies reached the Mets' All-Star closer, Jeurys Familia, for two runs in the bottom of the ninth for a 2-1 victory. That kind of spoiled an outstanding effort by Jacob DeGrom, who held the Rockies scoreless for the first seven innings.

Colorado is 50-52, and that puts them just five games behind the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals, who are all knotted up for the National League's second wild card position. Certainly it was unexpected that they might have invited themselves to the part, as the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers have gotten all the attention in the NL West.

In the MLB betting lines that have been established on this game by the people at BetAnySports, the Mets are favored at home:

Colorado Rockies (Chatwood - R) +154
New York Mets (Matz - L) -164

Over 7 Runs -130
Under 7 Runs +110

Rockies +1.5 Runs -160
Mets -1.5 Runs +140

NY Mets betting oddsThe Mets suffered a blow when Matt Harvey was lost for the season with thoracic outlet syndrome, but Harvey was not having an outstanding season anyway. New York has four very solid options in the rotation - aside from Jacob DeGrom, there is also ageless Bartolo Colon, Noah Syndergaard and tonight's starter, Steven Matz, but there is a bit of a disappointment because Zach Wheeler, who is on the road back from Tommy John surgery, is not ready to pitch yet.

For the Rockies, things seem to be looking up. They are now to within two games of the .500 mark, and it is no longer an impossibility that they could be in the running for one of the two wild card spots. They have won ten of 14 games since the All-Star break, and Thursday's victory broke a rather dubious streak in which they have lost 41 consecutive games when trailing after eight innings. And tonight's starter, Tyler Chatwood, is 5-0 with a 1.30 ERA on the road.

By the way, there is no team in the major leagues with a lower batting average than the Mets' .238. They are also at .234 at Citi Field, where they have stolen nine bases in 49 games. And their biggest gun, Yeonis Cespedes, is doubtful with a quad injury. The Mets are 53-48 and a game and half behind the Marlins and Cards for that second wild card spot.
