The second round of European Cup action starts today, and ROI Capper has highlighted two matches, including Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid, as these European giants look to add additional silverware too their growing collection.

European League Cup - Match Day Two

The time for European league cup fixtures has returned, and with many of these participating clubs playing on multiple fronts, they will be forced to lean on their overall depth, as they attempt to navigate this unforgiving schedule, in the pursuit of collecting cherished silverware.

England, France, Germany and Spain all highlight the league cup matches, with many of the top teams in action over the next few days, we should see plenty of mismatches, as the countries lower division sides, will attempt to do battle with many of Europe's elites.

SV Rödinghausen vs Bayern Munich
Bremer Brucke, Osnabruck, Germany
10-30-3018 - 3:45 pm ET

The highlighted match on the card is a true "David vs Goliath" scenario, as a fourth division side, will host the reigning Bundesliga Champions, in another edition of Germany's DFB Pokal competition.

SV Rödinghausen are largely unknown, currently participating in Germany's Regionalliga West division. The minnow squad have been in existence since 1970, and have since floundered around the lower divisions attempting to stay a float. Tuesday they get the largest test in their team's history, after upsetting second division power Dynamo Dresden on match day one, they now welcome the Bavarian giants to town, who are in pursuit of their 19th league cup title.

The heavy under-dogs were unable to host this particular match at their own arena, with a max capacity of 3,000, the home side were forced to move to the Bremer Brucke Stadium, to help accommodate all the interested viewers.

Enrico Maaßen will get the unenviable task of facing Germany's top club, the young manager will be tested to come up with a viable game-plan to help keep his side in contention, as this contest could get out of hand quickly, if his tactics are not spot on. Maaßen has preferred a standard 3-4-2-1 alignment, with Simon Engelmann and Kelvin Lunga the main threats to bother the Bayern back-line.

The home side could see a change in formation to help offset Bayern's strengths, I would not be surprised to see a fourth man placed on the back-end, as they attempt to clog up the attacking lanes, and keep this fixture a stale-mate for as long as possible. Expect Niclas Heimann to be the busiest man on the Rodinghausen squad, his efforts in goal will go along way in this tiny sides chances of progressing, as he is certain to see double digit shots on goal, with a ruthless Bavarian side certain to test his nerve between the sticks.

Bayern Munich make the trip with a slew of injury concerns through-out their roster, even with a plethora of world-class talent on the bench, the amount of matches in such a short period of time, can always challenge the best teams in Europe.

Niko Kovac has clearly had a hard time adjusting to his new job, after a hot start with the "FCB", the Croatian then only claimed one victory in five matches, before winning back to back fixtures, to help take the spotlight off his immediate future. Kovac was also almost humiliated in his first league cup match, narrowly escaping with a 1-0 victory to fellow fourth division side Drochtersen/Assel, the Bayern head-man should be better prepared to have a better showing, as he seeks to claim his second trophy with the club.

The 'Stars of the South' should feature plenty of new faces on Tuesday, expect Renato Sanches, Rafhina, Serge Gnabry and Sandro Wagner to all to get valuable first team minutes, as the defending German champs will want to keep their reserves sharp, and truly integrated into Kovac's style of play.

The visitors will also lean on their reliable veteran presences, as Franck Ribéry and Thomas Müller are certain to handle many of the play-making responsibilities, after being left out of their normal starting roles on a consistent basis, this will be a great opportunity for the club legends to show their true value, while helping lead their side to a third round appointment in German Cup action.

Bayern have been clinical away from home in this specific event, failing to lose in their last 27 away matches. The Bavarian's have succeeded in crushing their opponents dreams while on their own pitches, and with the caliber of competition ahead of them on Tuesday, it would seem likely they will keep that gaudy streak alive.

I expect a large output from the top flight side, even with their recent struggles, the amount of talent is far superior to their fourth league opponents. Rödinghausen will attempt to frustrate the Bavarians in front of goal, as they send as many men back to defend as possible, but as this match progresses, expect the visitors to find chinks in the host's armor, as they eventually place 4 plus goals on the score-board, as they solidify their spot in the next round.
