England Premier League - Match Day 38 Preview

The final match day in England has arrived, and the tradition of all matches starting at same time will continue on Sunday. With only a few significant matches to still decide Relegation and Champions League spots, the remaining fixtures should be wide open and free flowing as we generally see high scoring matches top close out the season.

Enjoy what has been another memorable EPL campaign, with Manchester City setting the tone early and eventually running away with the title, while also setting both the Points and Scoring record in a more than impressive showing in Pep Guardiola's second season on the sideline with the club.

The Premier League will also say goodbye to West Brom and Stoke City who have been regulars in the top flight league for several years, these storied clubs could never quite find their footing on a consistent basis over the course of 38 weeks.

The league is also beaming with pride, as Liverpool will be apart of the UEFA Champions League later this month against Real Madrid. The Reds have caught the worlds attention with their high pressing, fast breaking style of play lead by Mohamed Salah who continues to rack up individual trophies for a marvelous campaign in his first season with the club.

As the World Cup takes center stage this summer, many of the participating players in the EPL will be apart of the proceedings, as the Premier League continues to field many of the best players in the world.

10307 Huddersfield Town vs. 10308 Arsenal

John Smith's Stadium, Huddersfield, England

5-13-2018 - 10:00 am ET

The final match day of Arsene Wenger's career with Arsenal comes to a triumphant ending, as the French-man is set to lead the Gunners to John Smith's Stadium, where a Huddersfield Town who recently saved themselves from relegation, will await them as they look to capture positive points three straight weeks against another one of England's big six clubs.

Arsenal make the trip looking to record their first victory in 2018 away from the Emirates. The Gunners have experienced a poor run of form during their travels in the new year, and will certainly want to improve on that record as they wrap up their underwhelming season.

The Londoners are set to finish outside the top four of the league for a second straight season, after a long run of Champions League appearances. The Gunners will participate in the Europa League once again, as they were able to finish 6th in the table with an overall record of 18-6-13 and 60 points to date.

Arsene Wenger has experienced the highest of highs, and lowest of lows during his 22 year reign with the Gunners. After being credited with several reinventions in the league, the game seems to have passed the legendary manager by. Wenger though is still defiant he has more to offer on the European platform, rumored with the likes of PSG and the French National Team, there still seems to be a market for his services at the highest of levels.

The gunners travel north with a lengthy list of missing players from their roster, with Mohamed Elneny, Laurent Koscielny, Mesut Özil, Santi Cazorla, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Jack Wilshere who is still in doubt after the birth of his child during the week.

Wenger will see the return of Alexandre Lacazette, who was left out of the starting eleven against Leicester City. The French forward will likely be paired with former Dortmund men Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, atop Arsenal's attacking 4-3-3 formation. This combination of danger men should be highly motivated to place the ball in the back of the net for their beloved manager.

The Gunners target men have combined for 30 Goals in all competitions while with the North London side, those totals are certain to expand against a questionably motivated Huddersfield Town club.

Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka and Alex Owobi should also get the call to man the midfield positions. The Arsenal play-makers are exceptional two way players, often turning defense into offense in a blink of an eye, their creative skills will be called upon while at the John Smith's Stadium.

Expect the visitors should enjoy a large amount of the possession in this match-up, while spending the bulk of the match in Huddersfield side of the pitch.

The Londoners will also create a mass amount of shots on goal through creative passing techniques, and individual skill from their highly ambitious front-line players.

Arsenal have struggled to find the back of the net away from the Emirates this season, scoring a meager average of 1.1 Goals per match, in their last 18 Premier League away fixtures.

The Arsenal back-line has found keeping clean sheets a difficult task during their travels, conceding an average 1.8 Goals per match, in their last 17 Premier League away fixtures.

Huddersfield Town enter Sunday's fixture on cloud nine, the minnow side pulled off yet another minor miracle by grabbing two precious points against Manchester City and Chelsea in successive weeks, by doing so they sealed their spot in the top flight table for the 2018-2019 campaign.

David Wagner has been a savior to this once floundering team. After just one season with the club he lead the Terriers to promotion from the England Championship, he followed that up by keeping this tiny side in the Premier League for another season.

Wagner though may find getting his squad motivated for the Gunners on Sunday a challenge, after reports of heavy celebrations after their midweek triumph in West London, this could be a letdown spot for his valiant team.

Huddersfield enter their final match day holders of the 16th spot in the table, currently four points away from the drop, the home side have collected a overall record of 9-10-18 and 37 points in their first season back in the Premier League, after a 45 year absence.

The hosts still have not confirmed who will get the nod in the starting eleven, most would assume many of the back-up players would get added playing time after their safety has been secured.

Steve Mounie and Alex Pritchard would seem likely to lead the line in the Terriers 3-5-2 alignment, the trigger men have seen consistent playing time a challenge this season, but with 10 combined Goals scored in all competitions, they have the ability to place the ball in the back of the net when given the opportunity to do so.

Aaron Mooy, Jonathan Hogg and Rajiv van La Parra have all been major contributors in the Huddersfield midfield, often responsible for being aggressive on both sides on the ball, Wagner is a fan of versatile players who offer multiple qualities in his overall philosophy of play.

The Terriers will certainly be challenged to see much of the ball during this final fixture of the season, but they must continue to play with aggression. They will look to turn the Gunners over and create their limited offense using crosses, and long range shots which they have become quite effective at as the campaign has progressed.

Huddersfield Town have found it challenging to find the back of the net while at the John's Smith Stadium, scoring an average of 0.8 Goals per match, in their last 18 Premier League home fixtures.

The Terriers have been quite gracious too most visiting sides, conceding an average of 1.3 Goals per match, in their last 18 Premier League home fixtures.

Prediction:

Arsenal had their way with Huddersfield in the first meeting in north London, placing five goals on the score-board proving the match up very well with the newly promoted side.

The Gunners have since revamped their roster, with several moves made over the winter transfer window, it will be interesting to see how the new look Arsenal attack looks in this return fixture.

Huddersfield will know they have had a terrible time collecting positive points against the Gunners, having lost their last 3 matches in all competitions, while conceding a minimum of 2 goals to the Londoners over than span of play.

Sunday we should see another inspired effort from this Arsenal side, knowing they bombed their last time out against the  Foxes, this will be the last opportunity to send Arsene Wenger out on a high note while with the club.

Both teams have also shown keeping clean sheets has not been their specialties in these specific scenarios, I would expect several Goals being scored with each team hitting the back of the net, while Arsenal bag 2 plus goals and grab the victory during their time in Huddersfield.
