Manchester United vs Tottenham - Preview and Match Tips

Match week three wraps up on Monday with a huge "Big Six" affair, when Tottenham make the trip north too the "Theater of Dreams", where a wounded Manchester United side will be motivated to send Spurs home with a negative result.

Saturday and Sunday saw Liverpool take the overall lead in the table, while Chelsea took it late at Newcastle to help keep pace, while Watford continued their dream start. Manchester City slipped up at Wolverhampton, after a series of disputable calls, the Citizens dropped valuable points, and now currently in 4th place in the EPL table.

New boys Fulham, and Arsenal finally got off the canvas with their first three points of the campaign, while Huddersfield Town, Southampton, Burnley, and West Ham all find themselves at the bottom of the table, and in a early season relegation battle.

Monday will finalize the final standings of the week, with Spurs having the opportunity too keep pace with their fellow English giants, while Man-U are just trying to find any type cohesion, in what seems to be a dysfunctional unit.

Tottenham enter Monday's contest having yet to play their best football by a wide margin, although they have grabbed six points in the chase for the domestic title, Spurs still look to be in preseason mode, with many of their star players still working themselves back into full fitness, after a long summer run in the World Cup.

Mauricio Pochettino enter's the 2018-2019 season with one goal in mind, the Argentine will be judged by winning trophies, after several years of building a winning culture, but still coming up short when it matters the most.

Pochettino has made a few tactical changes in his normal formation to at the start of the season, moving away from a 4-2-3-1 in favor of a 3-5-2, with both Harry Kane and Lucas Moura leading the line. Kane seems to have responded in a positive way to his head-man's alignment tweak, netting his first league goal during August, setting the north London striker into a positive frame of mind heading into Monday's fixture.

Spurs midfield is true strength of the squad, with Danish creative midfielder Christian Eriksen running the show, his passing abilities are truly world-class, allowing for his fellow front-line players to find open space, where he routinely picks them out for quality shots on goal. Eriksen also provides a deadly option from direct free-kicks and set-piece opportunities, where his pin-point accuracy can always turn a match on it's head, while forcing defenders to back off of him in fear of creating a foul, and allowing him to work his magic.

The visitors have become even more multi-dimensional over the past couple of years, with the growth of Deli Alli being irreplaceable, the young English International adds another threat moving forward in attack, while taking added pressure off Harry Kane, who is still asked to bury the bulk of the goals for this Spurs side.

Pochettino will have a unenviable decision to make ahead of their trip too Manchester, after World Cup winning GK - Hugo Lloris was charged with a DWI on Friday, leaving his status for this huge match-up up in the air, possibly giving back-up veteran keeper Michel Vorm his first shot in goal with Spurs this season, during this crucial match-up.

Tottenham's back-line may be leaned on more than usual, the outstanding trio of Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sánchez and Jan Vertonghen will be called upon to help create a wall in front of goal, as the Red Devils are certain to try and attack Spur's possible back-up net-minder.

Manchester United were handed a huge loss on the south coast their last time out, stumbling too Brighton 3-2, the Red Devils were sent away asking more questions regarding their squad, than they truly had answers for.

Jose Mourinho did receive a bit of good news this week, with several of his key players set to make the starting eleven, the "Special One" has reason too be optimistic as the opening whistle approaches.

Chilean attacking midfielder Alexis Sanchez is one of those world class players he expects to return too his starting role, after picking up a injury ahead of the Brigton match, Sanchez seems to have recovered in time, to help lead the Red Devils too victory.

Mourinho also expects both Nemanja Matic and Antonio Valencia to make their season debuts, after being ruled fit by the Man-U training staff, their veterans presences in the midfield would be a welcome sight, to a Red Devil's side that were lacking any type of leadership at the Amex stadium last Sunday.

The two key components of Man-U's attack will still fall at the feet of Paul Pogba, and Romelu Lukaku who needs to have a huge performance, as his goals are vital, for a club who often looks to be out of sequence moving forward in attack.

The main-stay of this massive club still resides in goal, with GK - David De Gea once again getting the call to defend United's hopes of collecting all three points. The Spaniard has been at the fore-front of transfer rumors for several years now, but with Real Madrid finally inking former Chelsea man Thibaut Courtois, De Gea's future with the club seems to be more stable than ever.

Manchester United vs Tottenham - Prediction

Last season both teams split their home fixtures, with the Red Devils needing a late Anthony Martial counter attack in the late stages to grab a 1-0 winner, while Tottenham seized a early 2-0 first half lead at Wembley Stadium, too even up the season series.

Monday looks to be a more wide open affair, with both sides pushing forward for all three points, as the push to catch the league leaders will be pressure packed all season.

I am expecting a tight first half result, with this match opening up a bit more after the half-time whistle blows, with Both Teams eventually finding the back of the net, with a final score-line of 2-1 seeming appropriate, as match week three comes too an end.
