Dolphins' playoff odds are pretty good — compared to the odds of Sunday's miracle

The Miami Dolphins have already completed one December miracle with miniscule odds, and now it won’t take nearly as much of a long shot to get them into the playoffs.

With three weeks to play, the Dolphins (7-6) sit in a four-way tie for the final AFC wild-card spot with Baltimore, Indianapolis and Tennessee. So what are the chances they make it?

Depends whom you ask.

The statistical polling website FiveThirtyEight gives the Dolphins a 20 percent chance of reaching the playoffs, taking into account their remaining games at Minnesota, home for Jacksonville and at Buffalo.

The Action Network, which covers sports betting, ran simulations that give the Dolphins a 13 percent chance of getting to the postseason.

While those numbers shouldn’t force you to clear your calendar for the first weekend in January quite yet, they’re much higher than the single-digit percentage the Dolphins were given to make the playoffs ahead of the New England game.

Of course the wild card isn’t the Dolphins’ only path to the playoffs — they could win the division if they can make up their two-game deficit with the Patriots.

FiveThirtyEight says there’s a 1 percent chance of that happening. The Action Network has that at 2.3 percent.

Those are some slim odds, but then again…
