"Der Klassiker" German Clasico Preview

The domestic schedule resumes after a two week break for International play. Now the top leagues in Europe get back to the business of determining Domestic winners, European qualifiers, and those fighting to stay up and avoid relegation.

The International break allowed for many clubs to regroup, and allow players to recover from nagging injuries for the stretch run, we should see rejuvenated squads ready to make their last stand during the 2017-2018 campaign.

Enjoy the final two months of this memorable season, with the World Cup rapidly approaching, we should savor every bit of club football while we have the opportunity to do so.

10507 Bayern Munich - 10508 Borussia Dortmund

Alianz Arena, Munich, Germany

3-31-2018 - 12:30 pm ET

The famous "Der Klassiker", otherwise known as the German Clasico, will take place on Saturday as the highlighted match on the Bundesliga card.

Borussia Dortmund make the trip east to Bavarian country, where German giants Bayern Munich await them for another installment in this heated rivalry, we should expect each side to leave all they have on the pitch, as this is considered their most important match on the schedule each season.

Borussia Dortmund have made a transformation during this trying campaign, having seen their manager Peter Bosz get sacked early into his tenure.

While their most explosive player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang departed during the winter transfer window, this new-look side head to the Alianz Arena with intentions of humbling their long time foes.

The BVB start the Match Day in sole possession of 3rd place, with a overall record of 13-9-5 and 48 points, the Black and Yellows must look to add points each time they take to the pitch, as they contend to keep pace with teams 2-5 in the Bundesliga table.

Peter Stöger was given a second opportunity to redeem himself during the 2017-2018 campaign, after being released from FC Koln due to a slow start to the season, the Austrian head man has landed back on his feet, even after leading the Goats to a top 5 finish in the league, and a Europa league qualification.

Stöger has inherited a supremely talented squad, he went straight to work in changing the formation to his liking, preferring a 4-2-3-1 alignment during his time in charge, he has placed a singular focus on a true number 9 at the top of the line.

Michy Batshuayi gets the call as the primary Striker in Dortmund's attack, the former Chelsea man made the move to Germany during the winter transfer window.

Batshuayi's role was clearly to replace Aubameyang's production, the Belgium International has lived up to his part of the deal, knocking in 6 Goals in just 6 appearances to start his career with the BVB.

Christian Pulisic could find himself back in the starting eleven, after yet another injury to Marco Reus, the USA International stands in line to regain his Midfield position.

Pulisic has found consistent playing time a struggle under the new regime, the 19 year old must must take advantage of each chance he gets to showcase his impressive dribbling and passing skills to the head brass, with 7 Goals and 5 Assists on the campaign, look for the young American to shine if given the nod at the Allianz Arena.

Dortmund have been effective finding the back of the net during their travels, scoring an average of 1.7 Goals per match, over their last 13 Bundesliga road games.

The BVB defense has been equally as impressive, conceding an average of 1.1 Goals per match, over their last 13 Bundesliga road games.

Bayern Munich look to get back to business for the final stretch run, with the league title virtually sewed up for yet another season, the mighty Bavarian's will focus on keeping sharp, while looking to grab their first Treble since the 2013-2014 campaign.

Bayern hold the 1st place spot by a wide margin, with an overall record of 21-3-3, the defending champs own 66 points, and a dominating 17 point difference over their closest rival.

Jupp Heynckes has excelled during his time back with the club, the veteran manager was brought in after the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti.

The German head man has been assigned under a care-taker role for the remainder of the season, he has quickly turned his squad into a Treble contender, which is a real possibility based on their current standings.

Heynckes has allowed for a more free flowing attacking side since his arrival, installing a 4-3-3 - 4-1-4-1 formation.

The FCB have come alive in their overall movement going forward in attack, playing with a heavy amount of possession, the Bavarians create a numerous amount of shots on goal during each shift they take part in.

Robert Lewandowsi has benefited greatly with Bayern's tactical change, the Center Forward plays a huge role in Heynckes overall designs for success.

With the array of creative front-line players looking to play through the middle of the pitch, Lewandowski is a genius at placing himself in the right positions to receive pin-point through balls, and accurate services into the the box, where he is a world class finisher.

The Polish danger man has accounted for 33 Goals in all competitions, Lewandowski always comes alive against his former team in the Der Klassiker.

The host are expected to field the strongest possible line up behind their world class tally's man. James Rodriguez, Frank Ribbery, Arjen Robben and Thomas Müller have been highly effective when paired together, looking to surge down the wings, while creating mismatches throughout their side of the pitch, expect to see top quality from these Bavarian play-makers.

Bayern have been devastating in front of their loyal supporters, scoring an average of 3.1 Goals per match, during their last 13 Bundesliga home games.

The FCB defense has been just as stable, conceding 0.7 Goals per match, during their last 13 Bundesliga home games.

Prediction:

These two clubs generally see high scoring matches, with Bayern having scored a minimum of 2 Goals over the last 5 fixtures with Dortmund, and the Total exceeding 2.5 Goals over that same span of play.

The Bavarians also hold a supstantial home advantage, failing to lose over their last 35 Bundesliga home fixtures, making life on their opponents misearble.

Dortmund though have improved on the road as of late, going undefeated in their last 12 away matches in league play, this will be a true test of their new defined roles .

Each team enjoy getting out on the counter attack, where Bayern have the advantage with a more skilled back-line to defend such situations.

Expect the Bavarians to exploit Dortmunds weakness in such situations, while also attacking the BVB with a multitude of through balls, where Lewandowski should be licking his chops to punish the Black and Yellow defenders.

Bayern are line for a multi-goal perfomance, while the visitors normally bang in at least 1 Goal during their travels to Bavaria country, I expect this trend to continue during Round 28.
