College Football Week 4 Betting Odds and Underdog Picks

Professional sports handicapper Ross Benjamin has mastered identifying college football underdogs for the past 2 decades. Ross has a trio of such picks on Saturday’s card in addition to detailing how he reached those conclusions.

Akron Zips @ Iowa State Cyclones 12:00 PM ET
Game# 311-312
The 2-0 Akron Zips will travel to Ames, Iowa to take on 0-2 Iowa State. At this present time, the college football odds at all major offshore sportsbooks are displaying Akron as an 18.5-point underdog.

Akron vs Iowa State bettingThis looks to be a dangerous game for the heavily favored Iowa State Cyclones. They played #5 Oklahoma very tough last Saturday during a 37-27 home loss. Prior to that contest they went up against in-state rival Iowa. The Cyclones also have a date with #17 TCU up next. Sandwiched between those trio of opponents is a non-conference home game against the Akron Zips. I can’t imagine Iowa State will be as mentally sharp on Saturday let alone having a high intensity level.

Akron will be beaming with confidence after last week’s 39-34 upset win as a 21.0-point underdog at Nebraska. Not only was that road victory over a “Power 5” team impressive, but overcoming a huge 21-3 deficit in doing so exhibited a plethora of character. This certainly will be a much larger game for Akron compared to their Big 12 Conference opponent. Furthermore, Akron will be out to avenge last season’s 41-14 home loss to Iowa State. The Zips will do enough to stay within this sizable number, and an outright upset surely can’t be entirely ruled out. Nevertheless, don’t be greedy and take the generous amount of points we’ll be provided with.
Pick: Akron Zips +18.0

Clemson Tigers @ Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 3:30 PM ET
Game# 337-338
The current (9/18) college football betting odds at Bookmaker has Georgia Tech listed as a 17.0-point home underdog. Clemson has defeated Georgia Tech during each of the last 3 seasons while also going 2-0-1 ATS in those contests.

Clemson free pickClemson has already been a double-digit road favorite in 2018. On that occasion, they barely squeaked out a 28-26 victory as an 11.5-point chalk at Texas A&M.

Georgia Tech is coming off surprising road favorite straight up losses to South Florida and Pittsburgh during their previous 2 games played. Now they find themselves as a huge 17.0-point home underdog against #3 Clemson. Additionally, the Yellow Jackets will also be out to avenge last season’s 24-10 loss at Clemson. I look for this game to be much closer than the so-called experts anticipate.
Pick: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets +17.0

Mississippi State Bulldogs @ Kentucky Wildcats 7:00 PM ET
Game# 365-366
At the time of this writing (9/18), 5Dimes is showing Kentucky as a 9.5-point home underdog. Mississippi State trounced Kentucky 45-7 last season and they covered as a 14.5-point home favorite.

Kentucky Ole Miss previewMississippi State enters this contest with a perfect 3-0 SU&ATS record in 2018. The #14 Bulldogs have surrendered a mere 10 points or fewer during each of those victories and outscored their 3 opponents by a combined 150-26. They’ll face a stern test on Saturday when facing a Kentucky offense that averages 36.7 points and 469.7 yards per game. Following Saturday’s contest, the Bulldogs next 3 games come against Florida, #9 Auburn, and at #6 LSU. With all being considered, it will be a difficult challenge for Mississippi State not to be guilty of looking beyond a game they’ll be highly expected to win.

Kentucky enters this week unbeaten in 3 games. One of those triumphs came in their SEC opener at Florida 2 weeks ago, and they upset the Gators as a substantial 13.5-point underdog. These conference rivals last met in Lexington during the 2016 season, and Kentucky prevailed 40-38 as a 6.0-point underdog. I’m going with the home underdog for one of my college football week 4 picks.
Pick: Kentucky Wildcats +9.5
