It could be either Taylor Kelly or Mike Bercovici at quarterback for the Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday night as they face off against the Stanford Cardinal in Tempe.

The Stanford Cardinal and Arizona State Sun Devils faced off against each other twice last season, including a meeting in the Pac-12 championship game. That whole thing didn't turn out to be such a great deal for ASU, but maybe they have some surprises in store for David Shaw's team when these two Pac-12 squads, who still have some hope of making it to the conference title game, meet up in college football betting action that begins at 10:30 PM ET at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, AZ.

Generally the way that BetAnySports customers may look at this game is one where the past-oriented offense of Arizona State matches up with a tough-as-nails defense that Stanford possesses. And to a certain extent that is certainly true. Furthermore, it can be said with some degree of certainty that whoever Arizona State winds up starting at the quarterback position, they are going to be very liberal in passing the football in Todd Graham's attack plan.

In the college football betting lines that have been established on this game by the people at BetAnySports, Stanford is the road favorite:

Stanford Cardinal -3.5
Arizona State Devils +3.5

Over 53.5 Points -110
Under 53.5 Points -110

In last year's regular season, Stanford scored a 42-28 victory over the Sun Devils in Palo Alto, despite Just 151 yards through the air. Then, in the conference championship game, Stanford was even more dominant, with a 38-14 victory that sent them to the Rose Bowl. In each of those games, Stanford had 240 rushing yards.

But Stanford is as much of a "smash mouth" team as it was last season. They have to reshuffle the offensive line, and as one of the reasons they're averaging just 150 yards a game on the ground, which ranks 82nd in the nation. Arizona State actually averages 66 yards more per game over land.

BetAnySports customers need to take note that Arizona State, as of this writing, has a couple of different ways they can go at quarterback. Taylor Kelly has missed the last two games with a foot injury, and he might be available for this one (he is a "game time decision"). If not, however, Mike Bercovici was last seen throwing for 510 yards and five touchdowns against USC, including the Hail Mary pass at the end that secured a dramatic victory for the Sun Devils.

When it comes to defense, however, Stanford has been a rough customer, as college football bettors are very aware. They rank fifth in the country in passing efficiency defense, and were able to do an excellent job in their last outing against Connor Halliday of Washington State, who had set an NCAA Division I record with 734 yards passing in his previous game, but managed only 292 yards on 69 attempts against the Cardinal.

Both of these teams are nationally-ranked at the moment. Stanford holds the #20 position in the coaches' poll, and is #23 in the Associated Press poll. Arizona State is 17th with the AP, and 18th with the coaches.
