The Oklahoma Sooners bring their explosive offense to New Orleans for a matchup against the Auburn Tigers and their tough defense on Monday night in the Sugar Bowl.

There are plenty of storylines for the Sugar Bowl between the Oklahoma Sooners and Auburn Tigers on Monday night, but the one that comes to mind is that there the Sooners are the "irresistible force," while Auburn exists as something of an "immovable object." And those kinds of contrast are always intriguing. This game gets underway at 830 at the Superdome in New Orleans, and while ESPN provides the television, BetAnySports customers can place wagers on it as it is in progress, using the facilities provided by Live Betting Ultra.

Oklahoma comes into this game with a record of 10-2 straight-up and 6-6 against the football pointspread. They have won nine straight games, including all of their conference action. This all happened after they blew a home game against the Ohio State Buckeyes by a 45-20 score. On the season, they averaged almost 45 points per game, and it's no wonder, considering all the weapons that are available. One of them is the outstanding quarterback, Baker Mayfield; the Texas Tech transfer completed 71% of his passes 38 touchdowns, and over the last two seasons, he's had 74 touchdown throws with only 15 interceptions.

They also have a double-barreled rushing attack, with Joe Mixon, the subject of controversy lately involving his assault of a young woman a couple of years ago, and Samaje Perine, who had 974 yards and 11 touchdowns. And even though Perine is more or less playing second fiddle, he set an NCAA one-game rushing record while he was a freshman. And of course, Dede Westbrook is perhaps the most dangerous downfield threat in the country, with 1465 yards receiving and an average of 23 yards per catch over the last nine games

In the college football betting odds that have been posted on this Sugar Bowl game by the folks at BetAnySports, Oklahoma is the favorite:

Oklahoma Sooners -3 (-105)
Auburn Tigers +3 (-115)

Over 64.5 points -110
Under 64.5 points -110

Oklahoma is second in the nation in total offense, while Auburn's 21st in total defense. While Mayfield is #1 nationwide in passing efficiency, Auburn quarterback Sean White is not nearly as prolific. The 6-footer did complete 65% of his passes and was intercepted only three times, but he had only 1644 passing yards and nine touchdowns. In addition to that, he's not much of a rushing threat, which is not something that is deal in Gus Malzahn's offense. Auburn has a ground attack, for sure, finishing sixth in the nation in that category, averaging 278.5 yards. And Oklahoma has shown some vulnerability against opposing rushing attacks, allowing 4.6 yards per carry. The Sooners, in fact, has been sieve-like in their last three games, giving up 817 yards on the ground.

BetAnySports patrons have heard a lot about Auburn's defense, which is in the top 25 against the run and the pass, and has also allowed just 15.6 points per game (fifth best in the country). Howver, Alabama and Mississippi both had more than 500 yards against this stop unit, and Oklahoma, which is 18th in the nation in rushing yards and fourth best in third-down conversions (51.6%), could probably make an argument that they can move the football at will.

If they are able to do that, they'll put Auburn in a position where they have to trade, and that's going to be very difficult to do. Remember that Oklahoma faced a lot of teams in the Big 12 who could pass the ball with impunity, and that always makes defending the run more difficult. But when you are running up numbers like 629 yards against Oklahoma State or 854 yards against Texas Tech, it does take a lot.
