Max Scherzer takes the mound against CC Sabathia on Wednesday night as the New York Yankees and Washington Nationals do battle.

The New York Yankees could be on their way to an American League East title, although they are going to have a tremendous battle in order to get there. With some upstarts emerging, the Washington Nationals may have that same degree of difficulty in the National League East. These teams will each send a Cy Young Award winner to the mound on Wednesday for a regularly-scheduled game at 7:05 PM ET at Nationals Park. And if you are a BetAnySports customer, you can place wagers while the game is in progress, with state-of-the-art software from Live Betting Ultra.

We say "regularly-scheduled" because play was suspended on Tuesday night as the teams were tied 3-3. They will attempt to resume at 5:05 PM ET, although there may be problems attached, as the rain is expected to return.

Nats free pickIf they do indeed finish up the first game and get to the other one, the Yankees will send CC Sabathia to the mound against Max Scherzer of the Nats.

Sabathia is something of a "comeback" kid in New York. The 2007 Cy Young winner with the Cleveland Indians, he signed an insanely fat free agent contract with the Yankees and was very successful at first, leading the AL in wins for each of his first two seasons. But he got stale around 2013, and there were injury problems, as well as some problems with the mental side of the game. But here he is, at 2-0 with a 2.23 ERA, and his best start in years. He's had only one rough outing, although that was his last, as he gave up four runs and nine hits against Boston before having to exit in the fifth inning.

As for Scherzer, he is being, well, Max Scherzer, which means he is dominating hitters once again.

In the baseball betting odds that have been posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, the Nats are the home favorites:

Washington Nationals (Scherzer) -161
New York Yankees (Sabathia)     +151

Nationals -1.5 Runs (+135)
Yankees +1.5 Runs (-155)

Under 7.5 Runs -120
Over 7.5 Runs +100

The Yankees are a game ahead of the Red Sox in the AL East. They won 17 out of 18 games in a torrid run that brought them to the top of the division, and have gone 2-2 in their last four. The Nationals are 1.5 games behind the lead in the National League East. And in that division they have to now deal with the Atlanta Braves, who have been energized by young players like Oscar Albies and Ronald Acuna, and the Philadelphia Phillies, under the unorthodox leadership of Gabe Kapler.

NY Yankees tipsBoth of these teams are waiting for perhaps a little more out of their big power hitters, who are also former MVP's. Washington's Bryce Harper, who is hitting .232, has 13 home runs to tie for the National League lead, but he has launched only one in his last nine games. Giancarlo Stanton's brief Yankee career has thus far been best known for his 55 strikeouts, which have taken place in only 41 games. However, if you're looking for a sign of encouragement, who has whiffed just once in his last five contests. And he's hit a couple of dingers off Scherzer in his career.

But don't be swayed too much by that. Scherzer (7-1, 1.69 ERA) is right at or near the top in just about every pitching category of consequence. He has the best WHIP ratio (walks plus hits per innings pitched) in the National League. He's got more K's per nine innings, and more wins, than anyone. He is the leader in Fielding Independent Pitching. He has won six straight decisions. And the opposition has hit just .116 against him in Nationals Park. In other words, he could be well on his way to another Cy Young Award, and one step closer to the Hall of Fame.

Seriously, what's not to like? Rarely would we lay this kind of price against the offensively-potent Yankees. But Washington, winners of seven of their last eight (not counting the suspended game that still has to finish, of course), has allowed nine runs in the last six games. And it's now Scherzer, who operates with regular rest. So it's -161 here.
