Bartolo Colon will go after win # 243 as the Texas Rangers play host to the New York Yankees on Monday.

This could wind up being a big evening for Bartolo Colon, and who would have thought that he would last long enough to have as many career victories as Juan Marichal, one of the greatest right-handers in baseball history? But he can reach a very important milestone on Monday night, as his Texas Rangers take the field at Globe Life Park in Arlington against the New York Yankees. It starts at 8:05 PM ET, and BetAnySports customers can get reduced juice, then place wagers on this game even after the opening pitch, as they take advantage of what Live Betting Ultra has to offer.

Colon, who won the American League Cy Young Award in 2005, when he won 21 games for the Los Angeles Angels is like a cat with nine lives. After that Cy Young season, he won just 14 games over the next four years, as he battled injuries, and then came back to make the All-Star team in both leagues after turning 40, and as recently as two years ago with the Mets. Last year he failed in both Atlanta and Minnesota, however, and was once again left for dead (figuratively speaking, of course).

NY Yankees free pickThis season, however, he seems to have found a little more life with the Rangers, who had signed him to a minor league contract right before spring training. He threw 7-2/3 scoreless innings at Seattle last time out, leads the American League in strikeout-walk ratio (32 K's, four BB's) and, just a few days before his 45th birthday, he has an opportunity to tie Juan Marichal (who by the way, never won a Cy Young) for the most victories by a Dominican pitcher (243). Colon comes in with a 2-1 record, 2.82 ERA and 0.84 WHIP ratio (third best in the majors). So one can say he is worth the $1,750,000 they are paying him.

His opponent is Masahiro Tanaka (4-2, 4.73 ERA), who is once again doing a little Jekyll-and-Hyde for the Yankees, but has not actually lost a decision since April 17.

The Yankees have won four of their last five games and are one of the majors' best teams on the road (12-6), while the Rangers recently lost three of four to the Chicago White Sox and their league-worst pitching staff. They are just 7-16 at Globe Life Park, and that represents the third worst home mark in the AL. Texas is the last-place team in the AL West division (18-30), twelve games behind Houston, and they'll be selling before the trade deadline, if they have much to sell. The Yankees (30-13) have baseball's best record, and they are percentage points ahead of the Boston Red Sox in the AL East.

In the baseball betting odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Yankees are big favorites:

New York Yankees (Tanaka) -203
Texas Rangers (Colon) +187

Yankees -1.5 Runs -120
Rangers +1.5 Runs +100

Over 9.5 Runs -110
Under 9.5 Runs -110

The Rangers have been so inept on offense that it is staggering. Of the 48 games they have played, they have scored two runs or less in 18 of them. And they are the major league leaders in striking out. In fact, in 26 of the 48 games, they have struck out ten times or more. You can't just point to one reason for all of this. Adrian Beltre and Elvis Andrus are not in the lineup, and naturally that doesn't help. But Joey Gallo has not been producing either; he has hit 13 homers, but aside from leading the AL in strikeouts himself, he is batting .145 over his last 20 games.

Texas Rangers oddsThe Yankees are one off the major league lead in home runs, and the argument can be made that neither Aaron Judge nor Giancarlo Stanton has even gotten hot yet. Each of them has eleven homers in 44 games. Didi Gregorius has cooled down a bit (as in 1-for-45) after a fast start, and Gary Sanchez, who's been supplying power, is hitting just .225, though his .549 slugging is higher than either Stanton or Judge.

Colon allowed the Yankees to bang him around pretty good in two outings last season, giving up ten earned runs in 7-1/3 innings. He might turn in a good effort here, and he'd better, since the bullpen is also a disaster for manager Jeff Bannister (5.29 ERA at home). We're going to lay the run and a half with the Yanks and grab a competitive price.
