Sheldon Adelson, the chairman of casino and resort company Las Vegas Sands Corporation, has rebooted his efforts to ban online gambling in the US after he reportedly held talks with Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee earlier this month.

According to various reports, Adelson, who has long been opposed to internet gaming in the US, is said to be keen to show politicians that he will not retreat from his desire to outlaw such activities in the country.

Adelson has been calling on the US government to reinstall a ban that previously outlawed online gaming across the country.

Legislation was reviewed a few years ago in a move that allowed state regulatory bodies to decide whether to introduce legalised online gaming services in their respective jurisdictions.

According to sources close to Adelson, the recent meetings were used to update government officials on the current situation in the market and as strategic sessions.

Members and staff were unwilling to expand on what was discussed, although an aide with direct knowledge of the House Judiciary Committee denied that the briefing was officially organised or coordinated through the committee.

Despite Adelson's ongoing efforts to outlaw online gaming once again in the US, he failed to make the tape as the last session closed.

This effort included a advocacy group in the form of the 'Coalition to Stop Internet Gambling' and a legislation that would reverse the 2011 decision by the Department of Justice that the 1961 Wire Act does not forbid internet gambling.

However, in the new session, two of Adelson's key allies, Representative Jason Chaffetz and Senator Lindsey Graham, as well as the lead sponsors of the restoration bill, have returned to Washington stronger than before.

Both sit on their chamber's judiciary committees, with Graham now a member of the Republican majority and Chaffetz chairman of the Government Oversight and Reform Committee.
