PRWeb Ban Affects UK Gambling Industry

Late last week, the online gambling industry was surprised to learn that the State of Washington had issued the news distribution service, PRWeb, with a Cease and Desist Order.

This essentially meant that the company would not be allowed to accept content relating to online gaming, with the decision affective immediately.

"I apologize for the abrupt notice. This was not a decision that PRWeb willingly made," said a statement by PRWeb’s editorial management.

"We received a Cease and Desist letter from the Washington State Online Gambling Commission requiring that we immediately halt the distribution of press releases promoting online gambling sites and content."

"As PRWeb is located in Washington State, we are required to be in compliance with Washington State laws."

Strangely, PRWeb’s parent company, Vocus, confirmed that the company’s UK sister site would be following the same policy.

"From what I'm hearing they're going with it," said a Vocus saleman.

"We have PRWebUK and they're falling in line with the same rule."

Some of the top names in the business that regularly use PRWeb’s services include Paddy Power and Full Tilt Poker as well as many gaming news outlets.
