OSGA Member Dewey Teague was 2.1 seconds away from 500 bucks......with 2.1 seconds left in the NCAA Championship game Kansas' Mario Chalmers hit a giant three for Kansas taking the cash from Dewey and giving it instead to Dave Hall, this years winner of the OSGA 2008 March Madness Contest.
Unfortunately for Mr. Hall, he is not an OSGA member and thus only qualifies for a grand prize of $200.
"We really wanted to see Memphis win the game for one of our members", said Jim Quinn OSGA president. "Though we are happy for Mr. Hall, we were hoping to give away the largest prize ever awarded from an OSGA contest."
Contestants were awarded points in the bracket style contest and many were still alive going into the last weekend of the tourney, as the Final Four winners yielded 16 points and the tourney champion 24. The most points that could be accumulated were 184. Mr. Hall finished with an impressive 153 and Dewey was still able to finish 'in the money' at fifth, with 134 points. Tony Karpinski, a professional handicapper and a long standing supporter of OSGA, finished second, a meager five points out of first place.
For players who were not in the running for the grand prize, the contest featured another first for OSGA - consolation prizes. In all over 40 players are eligible for the free parlay being offered by Gamblers Palace. All players had to do was correctly identify one of the final two teams in the championsip game.
Here is the prize breakdown. Each winner will be contacted via email.
Dave Hall - $200 Cash Grand Prize
Tony Karpinksi - a $50 3-team Parlay at BetOnline
Mike Smith - 17" panoramic widescreen computer monitor
Bob Brenny - $50 Free Play at BetJamaica
