Top 5 Prop Bets for the Super Bowl

The end of the football season is here and online sportsbooks are offering the usual menagerie of proposition or prop bets for Super Bowl 46.

Well the end of the football season is here and online sportsbooks are offering the usual menagerie of proposition or prop bets for Super Bowl 46. Since the game gets a ton of action and it is only one on the board, sportsbooks worldwide offer an amazing array of interesting and potentially profitable wagers on everything from the coin toss to the halftime show to the length of the national anthem. Here are five prop bets that are worth throwing a few dollars on. Keep in mind, these bets are man-made odds, with very little to go on in the way of handicapping value and are certainly not something to ‘bet the house’ on. Instead, have a little fun and maybe cash a few wagers during the 4+ hours that this game will most likely take.

The number on this game is 3 with the moneyline at -145/+125. If you think the game is going to be close take  a look at the “Team Winning Margin of Victory” prop. New England is +300 for 1-3 points and the Giants are +350 for the same margin of victory.  Think the outcome will be under a TD? The Giants are at +500 for 4-6 points and the Pats are a whopping +450! The totals and the prices go up from there, but if you are looking for value and have done your handicapping, this may be one of the best props on the board.

Since this is a rematch of Super Bowl XLII there are some really interesting props involving the two games. The one that really make us stop and think is Tom Brady then and Tom Brady now in passing yards. Brady threw for 266 yards in the Pats loss in 2008. The over/under for this wager is 53.5 yards with over listed at -130. So, I think that the wager for total passing yard for Tom Brady may be pretty attractive. Adding the two figures together you get 319.5 yards and again, the juice is 30 cents. The Prop bet to look for is "Tom Brady Total Passing Yards."  Doing the math with the other wagers on the board under 327.5 yards passing is the play.

Lucas Oil Stadium give the players a chance to battle in perfect conditions. It also makes for optimum conditions to kick field goals. The Giants did a great job against the Niners in the NFC championship game, allowing ZERO touchdowns in the Redzone. Belechik is a big percentage kinda coach and I figure that he will kick FGs at any opportunity if a Pats drive stalls within the 30 yard line. The total field goals for New England kicker Stephen Gostkowski is currently at 1.5 field goals with a little bit of juice (-125) at Bookmaker. Take OVER 1.5 fields goals.

Victor Cruz has had such a terrific season for the Giants that he has his  own little ‘chant’ with Giants fans and bettors. Cruz is also a big play guy and a go-to guy for Eli Manning. Yet for some reason, the prop for whether or not he will score a touchdown is leaning towards NO. I believe that he gets a score in that game and I especially like the wager at +130.  In fact, the lines for the TD props fro Giants' players all favor no, so unless you believe that the Giants are going to get shut out, take your pick. This year’s David Tyree may be Mario Mattingham and he’s at +190

If this were any other game at any other venue, this wager would be a moot point and a silly bet. But the total for “How many times will Andrew Luck be mentioned on TV during the game?” is just 1 at the handful of online sportsbooks offering it. This is Peyton’s house . . . with Peyton’s brother at the helm of one of the two teams playing. The speculation on Peyton Manning’s 2012 NFL future has been bandied about to the point where I wonder if he is actually playing in the game. His successor will most likely be Andrew Luck. The number is 1. Really?!? Luck will get mentioned at least a half dozen times. At Bovada they have this wager at over  1 for -110.

And if this is not enough action, most offshore outlets will be offering Live Wagering during the game. 5Dimes does a good job of this during the regular season and other sports, so if you are interested in betting during the action, they are worth a look. If you are thinking of the Gatorade color, length of the National Anthem or any of these crazy ‘shot in the dark’ props, you might as well bet the coin toss too. We suggest to limit your props to a  few that you actually think about and have a chance to win, and have some fun betting NFL football for the last time until next fall.
